It’s evident that Vice President Kamala Harris’ economic proposals are being met with skepticism and disappointment, even from those within the media. The NewsNation host, Chris Cuomo, took a swing at Harris on Friday, following her blunder during an economic speech where she used the word “gauging” instead of “gouging”. Cuomo’s criticism, however, wasn’t aimed at the slip-up itself, but rather focused on the glaring lack of talent in our current political sphere.
“Gauging versus gouging, she made a mistake. We noted it … I don’t really care about gouging, gauging. I don’t care, alright? You got to take the level of talent where you find it,” Cuomo said. “We don’t have great talent in our politics right now. We got to wait for better people to want to get involved in what is such a poison process. But this is who we got.”
CNN anchor Julia Chatterley also had some choice words for Harris’ economic plans, specifically her proposed federal ban on price gouging. Chatterley pointed out the difficulties of proving and targeting instances of price gouging, as well as the potential negative impacts such a policy could have on businesses.
Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell echoed these sentiments, calling the concept of “price gouging” vague and potentially damaging to the economy. She also expressed concerns about language in Harris’ bill that could potentially lead to collusion among companies.
The criticisms are not surprising considering Harris’ track record of over-promising and under-delivering while oversimplifying complex issues. Her constant focus on blame and government intervention ignores the real root causes of issues such as rising prices. Instead of taking responsibility and seeking real solutions, Harris and her supporters are quick to point fingers and push for more government control.
Contrast this with the leadership of former President Donald Trump, who was able to improve the economy and lower prices through his pro-business policies. Under his administration, there was real talent in politics and a focus on practical solutions rather than empty promises.
It’s high time for the American people to demand more from their leaders. We need individuals who are truly capable and willing to tackle the complex problems facing our country, not just make headlines and appease their base. Harris and those like her are not the answer. Let’s hope that in the next election, we see a return to true talent in our politics.
