The tragic chain of events in Cincinnati this past week has exposed yet another failure of the liberal media’s narrative on crime and policing. While they rush to paint law enforcement as the villains, the facts tell a different story—one of a grieving father’s alleged revenge killing of a deputy and a teenage suspect who reportedly pointed a gun at officers before being shot.
On Friday, 38-year-old Rodney Hinton Jr. was charged with aggravated murder after authorities say he intentionally struck and killed a Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy with his car. The deputy, whose name has not been released, was directing traffic near the University of Cincinnati during graduation ceremonies when Hinton allegedly drove directly into him. The retired deputy, who was working an off-duty assignment, was rushed to UC Medical Center but later died.
Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey described the fallen deputy as “so well-liked and so well-known,” adding, “What a tremendous loss we have all suffered.” Yet, while law enforcement mourns, the liberal media remains suspiciously quiet on the brutality of this alleged targeted attack. Instead, they have been more focused on spinning the narrative around Hinton’s son, 18-year-old Ryan Hinton, who was killed by police a day earlier.
According to Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge, officers were pursuing Ryan Hinton after responding to a stolen vehicle call. The officer who fired claimed the teen pointed a gun at him during the chase. Body camera footage released by police shows an officer shouting, “he’s got a gun, he’s got a gun” before multiple shots were fired as Ryan fled behind an apartment complex. Theetge admitted there was “no indication that he fired at police before he was shot,” but the presence of a weapon—if confirmed—justifies the officers’ split-second decision.
Despite this, the liberal media continues to push a one-sided portrayal of police shootings, ignoring the dangers officers face daily. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine rightly condemned the deputy’s killing, stating he was “sickened by what appears to be an intentional act of violence.” Meanwhile, Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich vowed, “If the facts show this act was intentional, as the charge suggests, I will throw the full force of the law at the perpetrator.”
Yet, where is the outrage from the left about the cold-blooded murder of a law enforcement officer? Why does the media hesitate to call this what it is—an act of vengeance against police? The double standard is glaring.
