Disney-Owned Marvel Warps Christian Hero

In recent years, Marvel Comics has garnered much criticism for their overtly political agenda and lack of respect for traditional values. The latest controversy surrounding the comic book company involves fan-favorite character Nightcrawler, a devout Catholic, now performing a lesbian wedding.

Nightcrawler, also known as Kurt Wagner, has always been a beloved character for many Christian fans. Despite being born with a physical mutation that makes him look like a demon, Nightcrawler’s strong commitment to his faith has long been highlighted in his character’s development since his debut in 1975. This has drawn many readers to him, creating an interesting dichotomy within the world of Marvel.

However, it seems that Marvel’s current team of far-left activists could not let this stand. The far-left has long been known for their disdain towards Christianity and its traditional values, especially those pertaining to sexual morality. So, it comes as no surprise that in an upcoming comic book due in May, they will have Nightcrawler performing a same-sex wedding.

The backlash to this decision was swift and strong, with science fiction author Jon Del Arroz boldly stating, “Marvel Comics hates Christians.” In an article for Fandom Pulse, Del Arroz further explains his views, stating that “the most insulting part of the cover revealed is the image of Nightcrawler officiating the mockery of a wedding.” According to Del Arroz, this goes against Nightcrawler’s vows as a Catholic priest and is completely out of character for him to perform such a ceremony.

Del Arroz also addresses the recent retconning of Nightcrawler’s origin story, which now portrays his biological parents as two women. This retcon is just one of many drastic character changes that have become all too common in today’s comics. These changes seem to serve one purpose – to give activists something to point to and say, “See, it’s in the source material.”

Another example of this pattern can be seen with Black Cat, a long-time love interest of Spider-Man. In 2021, Marvel took it upon themselves to make Black Cat bisexual in the comics, and when the character was later portrayed as such in the 2023 video game “Spider-Man 2,” fans who complained were ridiculed for not being “real” fans. This gaslighting of fans who don’t agree with these sudden changes only adds to the frustration many have with current comic book writers and publishers.

The media has also played a role in this controversy, with outlets like Screen Rant applauding the recent comic run that sees Nightcrawler become a hypocrite by sleeping around while judging others for not adhering to traditional sexual values. This only adds fuel to the fire and further alienates fans who have been following these characters for decades.

It’s evident that until those who actually love comics are writing and covering them, we will continue to see beloved characters being twisted and reimagined to push a certain political agenda. For now, it seems that Marvel Comics is more interested in pandering to a specific audience than respecting the source material and the loyal fans who have stuck with these characters for years.
