Unbelievably, on the fateful day of January 6, 2021, amidst the chaos at the U.S. Capitol, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s motorcade was allowed to pass perilously close to an undetected pipe bomb near the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters. This shocking revelation, exposed by The New York Times, casts a damning light on the ineptitude of safety measures for high-ranking government officials.

As per video evidence from Capitol Police and surveillance cameras, as well as an unaired documentary filmed by Pelosi’s offspring, it’s clear that Pelosi’s motorcade was permitted to break through police barricades and traverse a security perimeter while the DNC bomb was still being defused. This glaring oversight is a slap in the face to the protocols established to safeguard our elected officials.

Adding fuel to this fire of incompetence, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ motorcade also skirted dangerously close to the same undiscovered pipe bomb. This occurred even after supposed security sweeps with bomb-detecting canines had been conducted. Clearly, there are gaping holes in the competency and thoroughness of security measures in place.

When CNN sought information about Harris’ near miss with potential disaster, both the Secret Service and the White House conveniently declined to comment. Their silence only amplifies concerns about the disregard for safety protocols for high-ranking government officials.

This entire debacle paints a grim picture of Pelosi’s leadership and her ability—or lack thereof—to ensure the safety of herself and other elected officials. It’s downright horrifying that she was allowed to come so close to an undetected explosive device. Even more so when you consider that Harris also had a close encounter with the same bomb earlier.

Thankfully, the Republican-led House Administration Committee’s Oversight Subcommittee is stepping up to fill the void left by the defunct Democrat-led Jan. 6 House Select Committee. They are committed to seeking answers and holding those responsible accountable for these egregious security lapses that put our government officials in harm’s way. Measures must be implemented to prevent such incidents from happening again. The safety of our elected leaders and the integrity of our government should never be compromised.
