It’s a sad day when a sitting President is pushed aside by his own party. That’s exactly what happened to President Biden at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, where he was approached by CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins. She dared to ask him about the whispers of Democrats allegedly forcing him off the 2024 ticket. As he was gearing up for his speech, Collins confronted him with the uncomfortable truth that he’s being sidelined by his own comrades.

“Mr. President, what are you planning to say in your speech?” Collins boldly asked Biden, curious about his address’ content. But she didn’t stop there, she continued her relentless questioning, “President Trump has called your removal from the top of the ticket a ‘coup’ and a ‘takeover’ with Harris now leading the charge. How do you respond to that?”

Biden, clearly taken aback, turned to another individual who asked if he was ready to hand over the reins. Yet Collins wasn’t done, she pressed on, “Mr. President, Trump says you’ve been dethroned and this is a coup by your own party. What’s your take on those accusations?”

Clutching the podium for support, Biden managed a response to Collins, “His ability is still questionable.” When asked for clarification by Collins, Biden could only muster a dismissive smile and gesture.

After their exchange, other reporters tossed questions about his health and the ongoing hostage negotiations involving victims held by Hamas in Gaza at Biden.

The news of Biden stepping aside from seeking reelection and endorsing Kamala Harris on July 21 came after alleged pressure from high-ranking Democrats such as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, former President Barack Obama, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – all worried about down-ballot elections.

In a Twitter’s “Spaces” interview with Elon Musk on August 12, Trump claimed Biden was toppled as the presumed 2024 Democratic presidential nominee in what he termed a “coup”. This alleged pressure campaign began after Biden’s uninspiring debate performance against Trump on June 27.

Collins reported to host Erin Burnett that Biden hinted his DNC speech would be “a memorable moment”, despite the difficulty in deciphering his response to her question about the supposed coup. The president tried to make light of the situation by joking about stability.

Interestingly, Collins also mentioned Biden’s plan to escape for a “vacation” with his family after attending just the first night of the DNC, which is set to run until Thursday at the United Center in Chicago.

In an interesting turn of events, Biden did deliver his speech but it was noteworthy that he was nudged out of the prime-time speech slot. Essentially, Biden was relegated to the back of the line where his voice would likely go unheard as most viewers would have already tuned out.
