Renowned swimmer Katie Ledecky is preparing to enhance her Olympic legacy at the 2022 Paris Olympics, where she aims to add to her impressive collection of seven gold medals. Ledecky, one of the most successful female Olympians, has managed to keep herself distanced from political controversies.
Recently, when questioned about her stance on the Title IX lawsuit against the NCAA involving transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, Ledecky opted for a politically neutral response.
“I think we’re lucky to live in a country where issues can be debated, whether it’s that issue or any other issue,” Ledecky stated. “It’s how I feel. I think it’s important to learn perspectives of others and gain an understanding of things and learn more about where everyone comes from.”
“I don’t want to get into politics,” she added, emphasizing her focus on sports rather than political debates.
Ledecky acknowledged the importance of understanding varying viewpoints in the US, yet chose not to directly comment on the matter. She emphasized her commitment to maintaining focus on her athletic career and refraining from involvement in potentially controversial matters.
Ledecky expressed her belief that each individual should have the freedom to choose what they are comfortable with and what they wish to advocate for. “As a current athlete and somebody still competing, I have always tried to just keep my focus on the competition and not get too involved in anything that could become controversial,” she said.
In June, Ledecky will compete in the upcoming US Olympic swimming trials, further showcasing her dedication to her sport over politics.
