It’s evident that the Democrats are in a state of disarray. The recent presidential debate was nothing short of chaotic, sparking rumors about Biden potentially being replaced as the Democratic candidate. The question then arises – who would be his successor? Vice President Kamala Harris is an option, but her approval ratings have hit rock bottom. California Governor Gavin Newsom may have a polished exterior, but his appeal to Heartland voters is questionable and some might take issue with a white man replacing the first black woman in the position.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg hasn’t been impressive either. The fact that names like Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama are being tossed around only highlights the desperation within the Democratic Party.

But what about Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer? Her strict COVID-19 policies and low approval ratings may have pushed her out of public memory. She scraped by with a 54.5 percent in her re-election campaign, and her mantra of “fix the damn roads” seems to have lost its punch. Her latest attempt at seeming relatable and appealing to voters, the hashtag “#HotInfrastructureSummer,” has caused widespread cringing.

If you’re not familiar with the reference, the hashtag is a twist on “Hot Girl Summer,” a 2019 song celebrating casual relationships. Whitmer’s version aims to promote her commitment to improving infrastructure in Michigan. In her post on X, she claims that “everyone knows that strong, reliable infrastructure is real hot girl sh**.” She assures us that this summer will bring both heat and lasting infrastructure, ending with a rather optimistic “Stay tuned and stay excited!”

This cringe-worthy political advertisement seems like something the “Kamala, Gavin, and Pete Don’t Want To Get Passed Over 2024 Super PAC” would produce. Even Christina Pushaw, who worked with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination, admits that it is “the purest distillation of cringe [she’s] ever seen on this app.”

While many have been drawing parallels between Harris and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character on “Veep,” articles are now suggesting Whitmer as a potential replacement for Biden. This is despite the fact that she hasn’t undergone the necessary vetting or preparation that typically precedes a presidential run. Her embarrassing hashtag only amplifies the issues surrounding her potential nomination for the Democratic Party.

It’s clear that Whitmer harbors national ambitions, but the idea of her becoming a serious Democratic candidate without adequate vetting or preparation is alarming. Unfortunately, there are even more distressing potential nominees being discussed. Whitmer’s #HotInfrastructureSummer may have just sealed her fate as a potential candidate, casting a poor light on both her and the Democratic Party.
