On a fateful Tuesday, ABC’s Good Morning America, co-hosted by the former Clinton official George Stephanopoulos and the seemingly unofficial Biden-Harris mouthpiece, Mary Bruce, once again showcased their unparalleled expertise in singing praises of the Democratic National Convention (DNC). This round of applause was for President Biden’s speech, which they claimed was a “passing of the torch” to Vice President Kamala Harris following a supposedly “jam-packed and emotional first night.”

Stephanopoulos’s introduction wasn’t an attention-grabbing quote but rather read like an uninspiring press release. His lead-in to Bruce’s report dangerously twisted reality, presenting as fact the misguided notion that the nominee representing a significant portion of our great nation is a threat to democracy. This could imply that those patriotic voters supporting this nominee are a threat too:

“The Democratic National Convention started last night. President Biden took the stage in Chicago just before midnight, passed the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris, calling her tough, experienced with enormous integrity. He also warned of the danger posed by Donald Trump, saying that democracy must be preserved.”

Bruce, on her part, laid it on thick. Her enthusiastic narration seemed like yet another clip for an impressive highlight reel if she ever applied to work in a press office for a potential Harris administration:

Following her “jam-packed and emotional” comment, Bruce continued to swoon over Biden’s speech which stretched “well past midnight,” conveniently ignoring that this was due to his inability to keep time. According to her, Biden was “touting and defending his record and making a forceful case for Kamala Harris to carry his legacy forward.”

“Overnight, a teary-eyed Joe Biden taking the convention stage to a rousing standing ovation over four minutes long. The crowd chanting thank you, Joe,” Bruce added.

She painted Biden as affectionate and approachable rather than the combative president that CNN’s Scott Jennings accurately described a few hours earlier as “one of the orneriest, angriest presidents we’ve ever had.” Instead, Bruce gave us lines like:

“The President, ticking through his accomplishments, but arguing it’s Harris, not him, who is best suited to finish the job.”

After diverting to highlight Harris’s earlier stage appearance and a primetime speech by Hillary Clinton, Bruce boasted that “the last word belonging to Biden,” a person “eager to cement his legacy and deliver the White House to Harris.”

She described the scene with a touch of sentimentality, saying, “The party’s past and future embracing on the stage. Harris appearing to tell Biden, I love you so much.” Bruce concluded by previewing the speakers scheduled for Tuesday.

Turning to chief Washington correspondent and three-time anti-Trump author Jonathan Karl, Stephanopoulos declared that Biden “seemed to make the most of” his circumstances.

Karl agreed, expressing admiration as he said Biden “soaked in the adulation of this crowd, the gratitude of this crowd” for “not just for a career in public service, but for that decision that was largely forced on him at the end, to bow out of the race.”

In an offhand remark, Karl acknowledged that Biden’s “speech was a little long” and “obviously late” but concurred with Bruce in dismissing any issues. They both glossed over controversial statements made by Biden, like when he equated Israelis (including those who had loved ones kidnapped by terrorists on October 7) and supporters of Hamas protesting in Chicago.
