Once again, CNN has shamelessly displayed their blatant bias by twisting footage to falsely portray the 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk as dismissive of the seriousness of nuclear bombs.
In a Twitter “Space” chat on Monday evening, Trump and Musk engaged in an enlightening discussion about various subjects, including nuclear energy. However, CNN’s Dana Bash took it upon herself to skew this conversation during a panel discussion on “Inside Politics,” by selectively cutting a 10-second audio clip from the extensive two-hour live stream to falsely suggest that Trump and Musk were trivializing nuclear bombs.
Bash introduced the manipulated clip, stating, “There were a lot of exchanges that were classic Donald Trump, but this one really stuck out to us.” What followed was an edited audio clip accompanied by images of Trump and Musk, along with a misleading transcription.
The doctored clip featured Musk saying, “Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed, but now they’re, they’re like full cities again.” Trump responds with, “Right, well, that’s great.” Musk continues, “So, it’s really not something that, you know—” before being interrupted by Trump’s affirmation of, “That’s great.”
Bash then twisted their words further by commenting, “That was more Elon Musk than Donald Trump talking about, sort of suggesting that what happened almost 80 years ago, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, now it’s okay, um, trying to kind of blow off the impact of that.”
However, when one actually invests time in listening to the complete, unedited audio exchange, it becomes glaringly obvious that Trump and Musk were discussing nuclear energy, not nuclear bombs. The conversation was centered on the safety and potential of nuclear energy, with Musk asserting that it is “one of the safest forms of electricity generation.”

CNN’s manipulation didn’t stop at editing the audio. They also conveniently omitted crucial details such as the regulations hindering full utilization of nuclear energy and Musk’s personal testament to the safety of nuclear power by consuming locally grown vegetables in Fukushima following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster.
In a later part of their discussion, Trump humorously mentioned that Musk hadn’t been feeling well lately, to which Musk responded that he wasn’t concerned about the nuclear plant in Japan. Trump then reminded him of past disasters in Japan and Russia, stating, “You realize it’s pretty bad,” only for Musk to reply, “It’s actually not that bad…”
After seeming to consult notes on the table, Bash was forced to admit that the conversation was about nuclear energy, not nuclear bombs. It became painfully clear that she had to retract her initial misrepresentation after realizing that the full context of the conversation did not support her biased narrative.

This isn’t CNN’s first rodeo in distorting footage to cater to their biased agenda. They have once again demonstrated their disregard for journalistic integrity and readiness to deceive their viewers. However, Americans are not easily fooled. Trump and Musk were engaging in a meaningful dialogue about nuclear energy, and as Trump astutely noted, it does suffer from a branding issue. The complete exchange between the two reveals that they were discussing the potential and safety of nuclear energy, not downplaying the gravity of nuclear bombs.
It’s high time CNN dropped their biased agenda and committed to honest reporting. The American people deserve to hear conversations in their full context, without manipulation to fit a certain narrative.

Instead of tarnishing productive discussions on critical topics like nuclear energy with deceptive editing, we should be promoting them.
