Despite his seven-season hiatus from the NFL, Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback infamous for his blatant disrespect of our national anthem, is still shamelessly yearning for a return to the field. His knee-bent protests under the guise of racial injustice have only served to stir controversy and division.

“We’re still training, still pushing,” Kaepernick unabashedly admitted to Sky Sports, when questioned about his NFL ambitions. “So hopefully. We’ve just got to get one of these team owners to grow a spine.”

“I mean, it’s something I’ve trained my whole life for,” he continued. “So to be able to step back on the field would be a huge moment, an achievement for me. Also, I think it’s something that I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.”

His desperate plea for another shot at the NFL is clear in his words. He believes he still has what it takes to make a significant contribution on the field. However, he needs an NFL team willing to risk fan and sponsor backlash.

Critics were quick to dismiss his aspirations as delusional, highlighting the considerable gap since his last NFL game. ProFootballTalk tweeted bluntly, “Colin Kaepernick says he still wants to play in the NFL. More than seven years since he last played, it comes off as delusional.” This sentiment was echoed by many who doubt the feasibility of Kaepernick’s NFL comeback after such a long hiatus.

Adding to the chorus of skeptics, former NFL player Taylor Lewan expressed his disbelief on Twitter, stating, “It’s time to move on, this is wild.”

In 2016, Kaepernick sparked a divisive trend by kneeling during our national anthem – a clear sign of disrespect to our flag and military servicemen. His protests ignited a wave of similar disrespectful acts across the NFL.

The NFL initially struggled with handling these unpatriotic acts and attempted to balance between players’ rights and appeasing rightfully outraged fans and sponsors. In 2018, they finally made a stand by enacting a policy requiring players on-field to respect the anthem or stay hidden in locker rooms.

Kaepernick became a free agent in 2017 and has been rightly ignored by all NFL teams due to his political antics. He even had the audacity to claim he’s been blackballed because of his stunts. In 2019, Kaepernick settled a collusion grievance with the NFL, where he alleged that team owners conspired against him.
