Once again, the Democrats are abusing their power and ignoring the rules. Congressman Eric Burlison (R-MO) has had enough, and he’s fighting back. He’s introduced a resolution that would put an end to the witch hunt against Steve Bannon, Mark Meadows, Peter Navarro and Daniel Scavino Jr by rescinding the unjust subpoenas issued by the so-called January 6 (J6) Committee, and rejecting the baseless recommendations that found them in contempt of Congress.

But Burlison’s resolution doesn’t stop there. It also exposes the sham that is the J6 Committee. It starts with how then Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), in her typical authoritarian style, refused to seat Republican members named by then Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, violating House Resolution 503 which established the committee composition.

According to this resolution, there were supposed to be 13 members appointed to the Select Committee by the Speaker, with 5 of those members appointed after consultation with the Minority Leader. But Pelosi, in her disdain for fair process, seated only 9 members and then brazenly held hearings, issued subpoenas and published a flawed report without meeting the required number of members.

Adding insult to injury, the Committee operated without a ranking minority member, blatantly ignoring H.Res. 503 which stipulates that the Chair of the Select Committee can only issue a subpoena after consulting with the ranking minority member.

Let’s be clear: House Resolution 503 did not grant the Select Committee Chair unilateral authority to issue subpoenas. So every single subpoena issued by this rogue committee is legally insufficient.

The Select Committee is also guilty of failing to preserve all documents as required by House rules, and even going so far as to withhold or destroy information that could prove former President Donald Trump did not engage in an insurrection.

Burlison’s resolution rightly concludes that these and other deficiencies are part of a partisan exercise to smear and silence Trump and his allies. It’s an unprecedented abuse of power, and it must be stopped.

Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) agrees. He shared the text of the resolution on X and urged House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to bring this important resolution to the House floor for a vote.

When asked if the Senate would have to approve Burlison’s resolution, Rep. Massie shut down that notion immediately. He stated, “The original subpoenas were issued unilaterally from the House, so the House can rescind them unilaterally.”

If passed, Burlison’s resolution would expose the J6 Committee’s actions as illegitimate and require the Speaker of the House to notify the Dept. of Justice that all the subpoenas issued by that committee are rescinded and should be considered null and void.

Currently, 24 brave Republicans have cosponsored this resolution. Now, it’s up to Speaker Johnson to take action and bring it to a vote.
