Once again, the hypocrisy of the left is on full display. On the anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court decision, MSNBC’s Joy Reid invited two abortion activists, including Planned Parenthood president Mini Timmaraju, to spread their misguided views about the impact of this ruling. They used the platform to spew outrageous claims and promote a divisive narrative that has no basis in reality.
Reid began the segment with a clip of Vice President Kamala Harris unfairly blaming former President Trump for allegedly “stealing reproductive freedom” from women in America. She then cited a questionable statistic from Planned Parenthood that supposedly revealed the “cruelty” of a post-Dobbs world, alleging that 21 states have enacted some form of abortion ban, affecting an estimated 28 million women of reproductive age.
The panel continued to use inflammatory and politically charged language as they discussed the ruling. Timmaraju made the audacious claim that the US has become a “segregated” society due to the decision, arguing that some states have more reproductive rights than others and insinuating that this creates a racial divide. Reid also stoked racial tensions by focusing on the alleged “disproportionate impact” of the decision on women of color.
What they conveniently omitted from their discussion was the unsettling past of pro-abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood, which was established by Margaret Sanger, an avowed racist and eugenicist. This glaring omission exposes their argument against the ruling as nothing more than hypocritical posturing.
In a misguided attempt to rally support, Timmaraju declared there is a “moral obligation” to fight for federal protection of abortion rights in all 50 states. She portrayed women seeking abortions as brave heroines risking their lives by traveling from state to state to access the procedure, ignoring the serious physical and emotional risks associated with abortion.
Reid also voiced her displeasure with the fact that men hold “overwhelming membership” in legislative bodies deciding on abortion rights. Yet, she and her guests conveniently sidestepped the fact that men can also support the pro-choice movement and that women are equally represented in anti-abortion protest groups.
Adding fuel to the fire, Reid and her guest Brewer perpetuated the unfounded narrative of the Supreme Court’s alleged partisan bias, especially in the context of the upcoming election. This is an unjustified claim considering the unanimous decision in the Mifepristone case demonstrated that the justices were capable of setting aside their political leanings and ruling in favor of the pro-abortion movement.
This segment is a prime example of how abortion activists and left-leaning media like Reid use divisive language and ignore the damaging consequences of abortion. They continue to push the harmful narrative that abortion is an absolute right that should never be limited, a dangerous viewpoint that disregards human life and overlooks potential solutions such as improved education and access to birth control for reducing unplanned pregnancies.
