In a horrifying display of the danger faced by our brave law enforcement officers, two Connecticut policemen were brutally ambushed and killed by Nicholas Brutcher, a hostile individual who had previously been issued a ticket and had his vehicle impounded. This violent encounter with Brutcher escalated as he behaved belligerently, hurled obscenities at the officers, and threatened them during the traffic stop.
Brutcher’s deceitful actions continued when he was escorted home by his mother. He then made a false 911 call alleging that his brother was behaving violently. Upon responding to this false report, Sgt. Dustin DeMonte, Officer Alex Hamzy, and Officer Alec Iurato found themselves under attack by Brutcher, who was clad in camouflage gear and armed with an AR-15.

Brutcher fired an astounding total of 83 rounds; 59 from the AR and 24 from a 9mm gun. This heartless act is even more appalling given that his blood alcohol level was recorded as .234, three times over the legal limit for driving.

Officer Iurato managed to maneuver around the back of the house where his police cruiser was parked and fired a single shot, hitting Brutcher at the base of his skull, ending his reign of terror on the spot.
In this nightmarish incident, only Officer Iurato survived while Sgt. DeMonte and Officer Hamzy paid the ultimate price in their line of duty.
