Rachael Rollins, a former US Attorney once praised by Democrats and nominated by Biden, has been embroiled in an increasing number of legal issues. In 2022, Rollins disgracefully resigned following a DOJ investigation that revealed her misuse of authority and leaking of confidential information to aid a Democrat’s election campaign.

Democratic senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren have previously lauded Rollins as a national leader in transforming the criminal justice system. They commended her shift from punishment-based approaches towards tackling the root causes of injustice such as poverty, substance use, or racial disparity stated.

The state bar counsel reviewed her case despite the DOJ deciding not to prosecute if she stepped down. The state Supreme Court has now suspended her law license due to unpaid fees.

Rollins faced ethical violations for her ‘social justice’ approach as Suffolk County DA which resulted in few prosecutions. Nonetheless, Democrats applauded her efforts to transform the criminal justice system.

Her downfall is another instance of a once-lauded progressive prosecutor whose commitment to reform led to power abuses.

The DOJ declared that Rollins ‘falsely testified under oath during her OIG interview when she denied that she was the federal law enforcement source that provided nonpublic, sensitive DOJ information to the Herald reporter about a possible Hayden criminal investigation.’
