Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, like many in his party, seems baffled by the overwhelming support young men have shown for President Donald Trump. But in a rare moment of clarity, Walz turned to an unlikely source for answers: his own teenage son. What he learned should serve as a wake-up call to the out-of-touch liberal establishment—but don’t hold your breath waiting for them to listen.
Walz admitted that his son, Gus, explained to him that Trump’s appeal isn’t just about policy—it’s about belonging. “‘Dad, a lot of these young guys [aren’t] voting on the policy issues,’” Gus told him, according to Walz. “‘They’re doing it because there’s a sense of excitement, a sense of thrill in this, it’s entertainment or whatever.’” But while the left dismisses Trump’s rallies as “clown shows,” they’re missing the bigger picture: Trump has given young men something Democrats have failed to offer—a sense of identity and purpose.
Walz, to his credit, acknowledged this, comparing Trump’s movement to a high school sports team. “Donald Trump understands belonging, he understands groups because look at it, he gives them a uniform, the red hat. He gives them some chance, some talking points, whatever, it’s not all that different than when we built sports teams in high school. You belong, you’re part of this.”
Yet, instead of learning from this, the liberal media continues to sneer at Trump’s supporters, labeling them as unserious or even dangerous. Meanwhile, Trump’s dominance among young men is undeniable. In the 2024 election, 56% of young men (18-29) voted for Trump, compared to just 46% for Kamala Harris, according to Tufts Now. Even more striking, Trump made history by winning 55% of Hispanic men, the first Republican ever to do so, per NBC News exit polls.
The left’s failure isn’t just about policy—it’s about culture. While Democrats lecture young men on privilege and push divisive identity politics, Trump speaks to them directly—whether through high-energy rallies or appearances on platforms like The Joe Rogan Experience, where 81% of listeners are male. Harris, by contrast, blew her chance to connect, refusing to appear on Rogan’s show unless he traveled to her—a move that reeked of elitism.
The liberal media would rather mock Trump’s supporters than understand them. But as Walz’s son wisely pointed out, young men aren’t just looking for policy papers—they’re looking for a leader who sees them, hears them, and makes them feel like they belong. And that’s exactly why Trump keeps winning.
