Watch: Hegseth Mops The Floor With McCollum in Epic Clash!

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered a blistering history lesson to Democrat Rep. Betty McCollum during a House Appropriations Committee hearing, exposing the hypocrisy of her praise for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s disastrous handling of the 2020 riots. McCollum, attempting to contrast Walz’s response with President Donald Trump’s decisive action in Los Angeles, was swiftly shut down by Hegseth, who reminded her of the chaos that engulfed Minneapolis under Walz’s weak leadership.

McCollum claimed, “Governor Walz made the decision to call up the Minnesota National Guard [in 2020]. At no point did we need, of the citizens of Minnesota, to request that the Marines be deployed. Our state and local law enforcement, along with our National Guard, who have worked on crowd control, they were more than enough. They were more than capable of handling this situation. History has proven that law enforcement and the National Guard are more than capable of handling situations more volatile than what happened this weekend.”

Hegseth, unflinching, fired back: “Well congresswoman, thank you for the question. You are right, we are both originally from Minnesota and that’s why I recall 2020 quite well when Governor Walz abandoned a police precinct and allowed it to be burned to the ground. And [he] also allowed five days of chaos to occur inside the streets of Minneapolis. The police precinct, ma’am, was abandoned and burned to the ground and because of that, the National Guard, was eventually, far too late, mobilized.”

The liberal media, ever eager to whitewash Democrat failures, conveniently ignores the truth: Walz’s incompetence led to one of the most destructive riots in Minnesota history. While McCollum lauded Walz’s delayed and ineffective response, Hegseth rightly pointed out that Trump’s swift deployment of federal forces in Los Angeles prevented similar devastation. Unlike Walz, who dithered as Minneapolis burned, Trump acted decisively to protect American lives and property.

The Minneapolis Third Precinct wasn’t just damaged—it was surrendered by police and torched by rioters while Walz hesitated. The New York Times reported that Walz himself admitted an “abject failure” in the city’s response, yet McCollum still had the audacity to hold him up as an example of competent leadership. Meanwhile, Trump’s deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines in Los Angeles stopped leftist rioters from turning the city into another Minneapolis.

Democrat leaders like Gov. Gavin Newsom and AG Rob Bonta, instead of thanking Trump for restoring order, chose to sue the administration—proving their priority is political gamesmanship, not public safety. The liberal media, of course, parroted their narrative, with CNN downplaying the riots while Democrat Mayor Karen Bass absurdly claimed Los Angeles was “calm” as live footage showed fires raging in the streets.

Hegseth’s takedown of McCollum was a much-needed reality check. While Democrats rewrite history to fit their agenda, the facts remain: weak leadership leads to chaos, and strong leadership saves lives.
